Prof. Walter Kohn (Santa Barbara)
Nobel laureate, Chemistry

Walter Kohn is a theoretical physicist who was awarded the Nobel prize in chemistry, for his work on 'density functional theory'; this work now underlies almost all of theoretical quantum chemistry, and is used in thousands of universities and industrial labs around the world, to find the structure of molecules and complex new materials.

Kohn also has an important connection with Canada- he was educated here, and frequently visits Vancouver. He has been widely recognised for his role in promoting world peace.
